Getting Started
A few quick answers for starting and using your first PaceDock session.
-
Open PaceDock and select Start Focus.
A Focus session starts your work timer. During Focus, PaceDock shows the time remaining and, if Sit / Stand Mode is on, your current body cue.
When the timer finishes, PaceDock will let you know it is time for a break.
-
When a Focus session ends, PaceDock moves you toward your next break.
If Auto Progress is on, PaceDock can start the next session automatically.
If Auto Progress is off, PaceDock will wait for you to start the next session yourself.
If Sit / Stand Mode is on, breaks are shown as Move time.
-
A Long Break is a longer rest after a set number of Focus sessions.
By default, PaceDock uses a simple rhythm:
Focus → Break → Focus → Break → Focus → Break → Focus → Long Break
You can change how long the Long Break is, and how many Focus sessions happen before one.
-
Yes.
Use Pause when you need to stop the timer for a moment. You can resume when you are ready.
You can also click the timer pill itself to quickly start or pause the timer.
Use Reset when you want to stop the current timer and return to the starting state.
Resetting is useful if your work session changed, you got interrupted, or you want to start fresh.
Timer Settings
A few quick answers for changing your timer lengths, long break rhythm, and Auto Progress settings.
-
Open PaceDock settings and look for the timer duration options.
You can change:
Focus
How long each work session lasts.Break
How long each short break lasts.Long Break
How long your longer rest lasts after a set number of Focus sessions. After changing a duration, PaceDock will use the new setting for future sessions.
-
Auto Progress controls whether PaceDock moves to the next session automatically.
You can turn Auto Progress on or off in the Settings menu.
By default, Auto Progress is off. This helps make sure you are aware of each timer change before the next session starts.
When Auto Progress is on, PaceDock can move from Focus to Break, or from Break to the next Focus, without waiting for you to start it manually.
When Auto Progress is off, PaceDock waits for you to choose when to start the next session.
Auto Progress is useful if you want PaceDock to keep the rhythm moving for you.
-
Open PaceDock settings and look for Long Break After.
This controls how many Focus sessions happen before PaceDock gives you a Long Break.
For example, if Long Break After is set to 4, PaceDock follows this rhythm:
Focus → Break → Focus → Break → Focus → Break → Focus → Long Break
You can adjust this if you want longer or shorter work cycles.
-
Most timer settings are meant to affect future sessions.
If a Focus or Break is already running, changing the duration usually does not restart or reshape that current timer.
The new setting is used the next time that type of session starts.
For example, if you change Focus from 25 minutes to 50 minutes during an active Focus session, the current session can keep going as-is. The next Focus session will use the new duration.
-
Yes.
Use Reset to Defaults in settings if you want to return PaceDock to its original timer setup.
This is useful if you experimented with different Focus, Break, or Long Break lengths and want to go back to a simple starting point.
Sit / Stand Mode
A few quick answers about Sit, Stand, and Move cues in PaceDock.
-
Sit / Stand Mode adds gentle body-position cues to your focus timer.
When it is on, PaceDock alternates Focus sessions between Sit and Stand.
Breaks are shown as Move time.
The goal is simple: change position more often during the day without needing a separate timer.
-
No.
The goal is not to stand all day. The goal is to change position more often.
PaceDock uses Sit, Stand, and Move cues to help break up long stretches of work.
If standing does not feel right during a session, you can ignore the cue, switch positions, or turn Sit / Stand Mode off.
-
When Sit / Stand Mode is on, breaks are treated as Move time.
That might mean walking around, stretching, getting water, or just stepping away from your desk for a few minutes.
It does not need to be a workout. It is just a gentle reminder to move before the next Focus session starts.
-
Yes.
Sit / Stand Mode is optional. You can turn it off any time if you want to use PaceDock as a simple focus timer.
This can be useful if you are in a meeting, away from your desk, using a laptop, or just want a normal Focus and Break rhythm.
-
When Sit / Stand Mode is on, PaceDock alternates your Focus sessions between Sit and Stand.
A simple pattern looks like this:
Focus · Sit
Break · Move
Focus · Stand
Break · MoveYou can also change the current Sit or Stand cue at any time. If your body is telling you to switch positions, change the cue and PaceDock will adjust the next Focus session for you.
PaceDock keeps the cue tied to your timer so you do not need to manage a separate sit/stand schedule.
Sync & iCloud
A few quick answers about using PaceDock across Mac and iPhone.
-
No.
PaceDock can still work as a local timer if iCloud is unavailable, signed out, or delayed.
iCloud is used to help keep your active timer in sync across your Mac and iPhone. Without iCloud, each device can still run PaceDock on its own, but they may not stay connected to the same timer.
-
PaceDock uses iCloud to keep one active timer shared across your devices.
That means you can start a session on one device and see or control it from another when sync is available.
For example, you can start Focus on your iPhone, then see the same timer on your Mac once PaceDock has synced.
-
Sometimes one device may not have caught up yet.
This can happen if a device was offline, asleep, recently opened, or waiting for iCloud to update.
On Mac, PaceDock checks for timer updates about every 15 seconds while the app is running. You may see a short delay before the Mac matches the latest timer from your iPhone.
Try opening PaceDock on both devices and give them a moment to refresh. If iCloud is available, they should move back toward the same active timer.
-
Each device schedules its own PaceDock notifications.
If one device is asleep, offline, has notifications turned off, or has not synced the latest timer yet, it may not notify you at the same time as your other device.
Check that notifications are allowed for PaceDock on each device you want to use.
-
Start with these quick checks:
Make sure both devices are signed into iCloud.
Make sure iCloud is available on both devices.
Open PaceDock on both your Mac and iPhone.
Check that both devices have an internet connection.
Make sure you are using the latest version of PaceDock on both devices.
If things still do not look right, contact us and let us know which devices you are using and what each one shows.
-
No.
PaceDock sync is for your own devices. It is not a shared team timer, public timer, or collaboration feature.
Your active timer is meant to stay with you across your Mac and iPhone.
